WEEK OF DECEMBER 19 -22

Monday and Tuesday will find the students working on their projects. Due to computer time c and e period are making a newspaper. Periods d and g are working on making a movie using photo story.

Wednesday will be presenting the projects and going over all the information we have learned on Government, Enlightenment, French Revolution and Napoleon.

Test on Thursday on the above.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 12 - 16

Another busy week.

Monday will find us going over the last bits of the French Revolution and starting Napoleon.

Tuesday will find us finishing up Napoleon and going over the homework packet.

Quiz on Wednesday on Englightenment and French Revolution.

Thursday and Friday we will be story boarding the French Revolution so that on Monday and Tuesday of next week students will make a movie on photo story.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 5 - 9

Monday will find us finishing up the notes on government beginnings in the englightenment. I will post them here on Monday afternoon.

Students will get a homework packet that will be due Monday.

Tuesday will be a vocabulary word on Enlightenment and French Revolution. This will be followed by the beginning of the French Revolution. The students will be introduced to the ideas of government changes in America and coming back to France.

Wednesday tudents will be finishing their introduction to French Revolution by going through a museum walk on major points of revolution. Students will start a sheet that is an overview of the French Revolution. Here is a nice summary of the Revolution.



Thursday students will finish the sheet on French Revolution. and will start a newspaper that describes the major events of the French Revolution.

Friday students will finish the newspaper and hand in homework packet.

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 28 - DECEMBER 2

Monday will find us going over the political spectum of lefts and rights, liberal and conservative, reactionary and radical. We will be in groups and teaching each other signals that represent the 9 types of goverment.

Tuesday and Wednesday will find us making a pamphlet on the 9 types of government.

Thursday will have us taking a quiz on the 9 types of goverment hand signals.  We will show the relationship between political spectrum and governments are related.

Friday will have us taking a quiz on the 9 types of government and polictical spectrum. We will have an introduction to the Enlightenment.

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 21 - 23

Slight change of plans:
Monday will find us starting Government. We will take a self test to find out if we are liberal or conservative.

Tuesday will find us going over results of selft test and understanding the political spectrum. They will know what the left and right side of politics are along with reactionaries and revolutionaries.

Wednesday we meet for 7 minutes and will work on a fun activity.

Next week will start us with.....

Monday will find us creating symbols for the 9 types of government. The students will come up with hand gestures that represent the type of government they are in charge of. The class will learn these signals and have a quiz on them.

Tuesday will find us practicing the 9 types of government signals. Students will be creating a pamphlet on the nine types of government.

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 14 - 18

Monday will find the students working on a Scientist Yearbook. This is a yearbook page of 5 of the early game changes for science such as Galileo, Harvey, Bacon, Newton.

Tuesday will find us going over why the students choose the 5 they did and defending their choices. We will also be going over how to write a dbq or document based question.

Wednesday is a half day. We will review for a test on Thursday.

Thursday will find us taking a test on Revolutions in Art, Religion and Science.

Friday will be a discussion of government. We will be starting a unit on Revolutions in Government. This will entail learning different types of government and major changes of thinking in government.

We will be deciding who will make the best president. What values we place on being a leader.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 31- NOVEMBER 4

Happy Halloween!

Monday will find us going over homework and the charts of artists. This chart is part of a project. I will put the directions here on Monday.

There is 3 parts to this project.
           1. Critiquing art chart on 20 paintings.
           2. finding a piece of art students like. They will write 2 paragraphs. One on artist the second on
               the art work.
           3. Oral presention on their research.

We will also be going over how to save to their google accounts.

Tuesday will find us in the library researching our art and artist.

Wednesday will find us listening to 11 famous pieces of classical music and guessing who the artist is
.



 



Thursday is a quiz on art and artists.

Friday will find us wrapping up the art unit and getting ready for presentations on their artists.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 24 - 28

After our look at REVOLUTION in religion, our next area for REVOLUTION is ART! The Renaissance or Rebirth.


Monday will be an introduction to art and the Renaissance. It is subjective and it must be understood for that quality. However, you can still appreciate the elements that go into art. We will be comparing medieval art and to the Renaissance art and perspective. Students will see some different art and between the two. The students will receive a sheet on the differences between classical, medieval and renaissance art.

Tuesday will find the students looking at elements of art. They will be asked to critique a few painting using the elements such as empahsis, color, proportional.... a piece they might look at is the following:

Wednesday will be looking at different schools of art such as Realism, Romantics, Cubism, Abstract, impressionism and post impressionism. Here are some examples:

Thursday and Friday will be in the computer lab looking at 20 pieces of famous art and critiquing it and finding a piece to share with the class.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 17 -21

Monday will have us reading about Martin Luther and taking a little comprehension quiz.

Tuesday will have us working on Martin Luther wanted poster. We will also create a venn diagram with differences between Catholic and Protestant Christianity.

Wednesday will be a look at England and Henry VIII and his daughters Mary and Elizabeth. The students will be assigned to create a fake facebook page for Henry VIII and Elizabeth.



Thursday will be finishing up our facebook assignment and going over the homework packet.

Friday will be a quiz on on Protestant Reformation. The students will be getting a homework packet on the Renaissance. The students will work on an introductory activity on art.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 11-14

We are entering a new unit which will be based on the theme REVOLUTION. Revolution is  quick change. Revolution is the theme for the next few months. Our topics will all center around revolutions.  The first revolution we will be looking at is religion. We will be looking at how Christianity broke into 2 with Catholics and Protestants.


 Tuesday we will be defining Revolution with a Freyer Model. It is a good lesson thinking about what exactly a revolution is.

The students will be getting a homework packet due Friday for Honors and Monday for CP1.

Wednesday is no class due to school psats for Jr. and Soph. classes.
On Thursday we will be looking at pictures of people who are going to be the main players of the Protestant Refromation. .

WEEK OF OCTOBER 3 - 7

Monday will find us finishing up our illuminations of Hildegard or St. Francis. The gregorian chants will be missing. At the end of the period, we will move on to cathederals.

Tuesday we will be looking at the architecture of cathederals and their importance. Here are some cathederals including Washington D.C.'s in the 2nd picture.
 


 
Wednesday we will be looking at the crusades and seeing the difficulties of those battles. We will also be discussing the changes that came about because of the crusades. Here is the city being fought  for.

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 26-30

This week we be a Middle Ages Variety.

Monday after our QUIZ, we will be watching the video on Castles that we have been trying to get to. We were delayed by spending more time in class on the Middle Ages Project and a visit from Ms. Getchell our guidance counselor.

Tuesday we will be looking at crime and punishment.

Wednesday is a half day and we will be discussing the plague, its symptoms and the toll it took.

Thursday we will looking at religion of the Middle Ages, which was Catholicism. We will be taking a few notes found here. We will discussing people like Benedictine, Francis of Asissi, and The Inquisition.

Friday we will be monks or nuns and be role playing the life of a monk or nun in the scriptorium by illuminating a manuscript on Hildegard and listening to Gregorian Chants.

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 19 - 23

This week once again will be a variety of activities.

Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday will find us in the library doing research on our Middle Ages Fictional Character project. Direction will be found here if my computer at school works. This project will be due in two weeks or September 30. There is a lot to the project so there will not be a ton of homework. This is a double test grade.

Thursday will be finishing up castles by looking at David McCauley's Castle Movie which does a good job showing life around the building and living in a castle. Last part of period will be going over homework packet for a quiz on Monday.


Friday will find us with a visit from the guidance counselor Ms. Getchell to discuss the students future plans and ideas and have them organize a plan of graduation.

Here is a classic song about the plague that killed 1/3 of all Europeans.


Symptons were rose or rosie circles on the body. Many people thought breathing through poseys was going to help and ashes ashes we all fall down dead. Puts a new light on children songs.

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12 - 16

This week will be a variety.

Monday will find us reflecting on 9/11. This will be done by asking the students to build monument to 9/11 and explain why they have the design they came up with.  We will also provide time for discussion.

This clip will hopefully get you in the mood for the Middle Ages and the way they thought and lived.



Tuesday will have us taking the notes on the Middle Ages that can be found here that we started on Friday. This will be followed by a look at the manor.

Wednesday will be a discussion of the manor and how it turned into a castles. The students will design a castle to get a feel for the ideas behind the designs. It was a war machine.

Thursday will find us watching an intresting film about the castle. It covers how they were built, the use  and everyday life.

Friday will find us looking at Knights, Chivalry and everday life. This students will be getting directions to a Middle Ages project. Those will be found here. Speaking of everyday life. This puts soccer in a new light from the 1500s Tudor England.

WEEK OF SEPT 6 - SEPT 9

Tuesday we will be looking at values and our own values with a class exercise.

Wednesday we will be looking at the danger of applying our values to other cultures, time periods and groups by looking at the Nacirema and their devotion to the Rac.

Thursday we will be looking at a world map and seeing what we know and don't know in relationship to countries and bodies of water.

Friday will be introducing the Middle Ages our first unit of study. We will brainstorm ideas we already know about this period. The students will take some notes which will be found here on Friday.
